SUMMARY:Transforming Clinical Supervision from Adequate to Exceptional - 6 CE Credits
DESCRIPTION:Abstract\nClinical supervision is the cornerstone in developing Clinical / Counselling Psychologists. Most supervisees report receiving adequate supervision; however\, shouldn’t we strive to provide exceptional clinical preparation in supervision?  Building on previous presentations by leaders in the field\, this workshop highlights a competency-based approach that transforms clinical supervision from adequate to exceptional.  Through lecture\, video demonstrations\, integration activities\, and discussions\, participants will learn the practical means to enhance supervision and clinical competence \nIntended Audience\nRegistered psychologists\, eligible to be supervisors. \nLearning Objective\n\nTo review the core components of clinical competency-based supervision.\nTo contrast adequate and exceptional supervision using a clinical competency-based framework.\nTo provide demonstration and practice in the practical means to enhance supervision in ways that impact clinical competence\n\nFormat and Schedule\n\nSession 9-10:30 am\nBreak 10:30-10:45 \nSession 10:45- 12 \nLunch 12-1pm \nSession 1-2:30 \nBreak 2:30-2:45 \nSession 2:45- 3:30\n\nPresenter\n\n																											 \nEdward Shafranske\, Ph.D\nEdward Shafranske\, PhD\, ABPP\, is Professor and Muriel Lipsey Chair in Clinical and Counseling Psychology and directs the Psy.D. program in clinical psychology at Pepperdine University and serves as Associate Clinical Professor at the UCI School of Medicine. He has published widely in the fields of clinical supervision and the applied psychology of religion.  He is the co-author of Clinical Supervision: A Competency-Based Approach\, 2nd ed.\, (2021) published by the American Psychological Association.  His publications with Dr. Carol Falender have focused on the development of a comprehensive competency-based approach to clinical training and supervision.  He has served twice as President of Division 36\, is a fellow in Divisions 12\, 29\, & 36\, and was honored for his contributions by the California Psychological Association.  He has supervised first-year psychology students through postdoctoral trainees. \nCE Credits\nThe Psychologists’ Association of Alberta (PAA) is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) to offer Continuing Education (CE) for psychologists. This workshop is offered for six (6.0) hours of CE Credit. Full attendance at the workshop is required to receive Continuing Education Credits. Partial credit will not be awarded\, and late arrivals or early departure will preclude awarding of Continuing Education Credits. PAA maintains responsibility for the program. \nCredits: 6.0 \nCancellation and Refunds\nCancellation and refunds may be applied for by email or phone call to the PAA Membership Officer. Cancellations received fourteen (14) days prior to the Continuing Professional Development activity will receive a full refund of the registration fee\, less a $35.00 + GST processing fee. PAA reserves the right to cancel any activity\, in which case a full refund of the registration fee will be provided.
