SUMMARY:Who Are the Rainbow Communities and Why Should We Know? - 1 CE Credit VIRTUAL
DESCRIPTION:Abstract \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n An ever-evolving group of communities\, the 2SLGBTQ+ individuals\, couples\, and families have become more of our therapeutic and political focus over the years. There is more research now than ever before about this group of people and their needs\, and yet there is much that is not yet known about them. We\, as therapists\, will encounter people who identify themselves as belonging to some part or parts of the queer communities\, and so we need to educate ourselves on how best to serve them. This presentation is where we will begin. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learning Objectives \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n To list who comes under the Rainbow of these communities. To understand the impact of the history of discrimination and abuse of these communities. To start to get an understanding of the unique issues that impact these communities. To begin a self-evaluation of our potential biases as mental health professionals. To analyze the areas we might start to change to make more space for these communities. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Intended Audience \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This presentation is for mental health professionals who wish to have an overview of who the 2SLGBTQ+ communities are and what unique issues they face that would allow for their practices to become more accessible to this population. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Rainbow Communities – Pre Event Survey – AnonymousHow would you describe your familiarity with the LGBTQAI2S+ communities?Very FamiliarSomewhat FamiliarUnsureSomewhat UnfamiliarCompletely UnfamiliarDo you currently work with the LGBTQAI2S+ communities?YesNoWhat are you most interest to see covered in this session?
