SUMMARY:Understanding and Treating Psychosocial Risk Factors in Major Depression - 1.5 CE-Credit - Virtual
DESCRIPTION:Abstract				\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n						\n					\n			\n						\n						\n									Major depression has been extensively studied and there has been an enormous growth in the field in recent years. There are now many well- established and psychosocial risk factors for depression\, some of which are addressed in treatment\, but many of which are not given the attention they perhaps require.  The ability to develop case conceptualized models of depression and to select the most likely effective treatment for a given client requires knowledge about these developments. In this webinar recent information about risk and resilience will be shared\, and evidence- based models of treatment will be highlighted that can address these risk factors. Attendees will come away with a greater appreciation of the complexity of the concept of depression and the range of potentially useful treatments.  This presentation will be of most use to practitioners with experience assessing and treating clients with depression\, either alone or when in the presence of other comorbid conditions. 								\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n						\n					\n			\n						\n						\n					Learning Objectives				\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n						\n					\n			\n						\n						\n									Understand the diagnosis and epidemiology of Major Depression.Integrate the understanding of the complexity of the construct of clinical depression and its implications for models of risk and resilience.Review the major established psychological and social risk factors for depression.Gain exposure to the evidence-based strategies that target established risk and vulnerability factors in depression\,Consider areas for future training and practice development.								\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n						\n					\n			\n						\n						\n					Presenter				\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n						\n					\n			\n						\n						\n																														\n				\n					\n		\n				\n			\n						\n						\n					Dr. Keith Dobson				\n				\n				\n						\n									Dr. Keith Dobson is a Professor Emeritus of Clinical Psychology at the University of Calgary\, where has served in roles such as the inaugural Director of the Clinical Psychology Program\, and Head of the Department of Psychology.  His research has focused on both models and the treatment of depression\, particularly using cognitive-behavioural therapies.   Dr. Dobson is also a Principal Investigator for the Opening Minds program of the Mental Health Commission of Canada\, with a focus on stigma reduction related to mental disorders in the workplace.   Dr. Dobson’s research has resulted in over 340 published articles and 80 chapters\, 18 books\, and conference and workshop presentations in many countries.  His recent books include The Stigma of Mental Illness (2021) and Treatment of Psychosocial Risk Factors in Depression (2023).  In recognition of his work he has received numerous awards including the Canadian Psychological Association Gold Medal for Lifetime Contributions to Psychology\, and Fellow status with several organizations\, including the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and the Royal Society of Canada. 								\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n						\n					\n			\n						\n						\n					Continuing Education Credits 				\n				\n				\n						\n									The Psychologists’ Association of Alberta (PAA) is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) to offer Continuing Education (CE) for psychologists. This workshop is offered for one and a half (1.5) hours of CE Credit. Full attendance at the workshop is required to receive Continuing Education Credits. Partial credit will not be awarded\, and late arrivals or early departure will preclude awarding of Continuing Education Credits.
