SUMMARY:Breaking the OCD Cycle: The Power of Exposure and Response Prevention - 6 CE Credit

We will add you to the cancellation list and if a spot opens up\, we will reach out to you. Obsessive-compulsive disorder is not rare and it typically starts early in life. Too often it goes undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for many years. Clients living with OCD are often offered therapy strategies that actually backfire and make their symptoms worse. In this workshop\, we will be discussing the gold standard treatment for OCD called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). This evidence-based therapy is significantly underutilized by mental health practitioners. The workshop provides an overview of family-based ERP treatment planning for OCD and anxiety issues. 								\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n						\n					\n			\n						\n						\n					Intended Audience				\n				\n					\n		\n				\n			\n						\n						\n									All mental health professionals\, including psychologists\, psychiatrists\, family physicians\, pediatricians\, social workers\, and other health professionals and students who would like to learn practical\, proven methods to enhance their therapeutic skills with teens and adults living with OCD and anxiety. 								\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n						\n					\n			\n						\n						\n					Learning Objectives				\n				\n					\n		\n				\n			\n						\n						\n									Understand the essentials of exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy and its effectiveness in treating OCD.Learn the key components of an ERP therapy program and how paradoxical treatment can reduce OCD symptoms and anxiety.Learn how to apply exposure and response prevention techniques in real-world situations with case presentations.Learn about the problem of family accommodation and how to engage family members for the best results.Provide educational resources for clinicians and their clients.								\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n						\n					\n			\n						\n						\n					Presenter				\n				\n					\n		\n				\n			\n						\n						\n					\n			\n						\n						\n																														\n				\n					\n		\n				\n			\n						\n						\n					Janet Caryk				\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n						\n					\n			\n							\n		\n				\n			\n						\n						\n									Janet Caryk is a Registered Psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta and has been practicing for over 40 years.  She is the co-founder of the Centre For Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Edmonton and facilitates NO More Fear psychoeducational seminars for people living with OCD/anxiety disorders and their families.  Janet works with clients 10+ years of age\, providing exposure-based treatment.  She also provides clinical supervision to psychology graduate students and psychiatry residents. 								\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n						\n					\n			\n						\n						\n					Cancellation and Refunds				\n				\n					\n		\n				\n			\n						\n						\n									Cancellation and refunds may be applied for by email or phone call to the PAA Continuing Professional Development Officer.  Cancellations received fourteen (14) days prior to the Continuing Professional Development activity will receive a full refund of the registration fee\, less a $35.00 + GST processing fee. PAA reserves the right to cancel any activity\, in which case a full refund of the registration fee will be provided. 								\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n						\n					\n			\n						\n						\n					Continuing Education Credits 				\n				\n					\n		\n				\n			\n						\n						\n									The Psychologists’ Association of Alberta (PAA) is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) to offer Continuing Education (CE) for psychologists. This workshop is offered for six (6.0) hours of CE Credit. Full attendance at the workshop is required to receive Continuing Education Credits. Partial credit will not be awarded\, and late arrivals or early departure will preclude awarding of Continuing Education Credits. PAA maintains responsibility for the program.
